Owen About To Sign For Real

Liverpool’s England striker Michael Owen will join Real Madrid in a deal worth £9 million plus right-sided midfielder Carlos Nunez, according to the latest reports which cite “a source close to the club.”
So far there has no been no official confirmation from either club.
However, Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the chance to sign for Real is "a once in a lifetime opportunity for Michael, which he can’t turn down".
Carragher said: "When he (Owen) goes down to the England squad he’s one of the best players there and sees players who aren’t as good as him with more medals and championships.
"Maybe that’s something he wants to rectify."
Owen was expected to move to Real after being left on the bench for Liverpool’s Champions League game against Graz AK on Tuesday so that he would not be cup-tied.
With just one year left on his Liverpool contract, Owen would be able to leave Anfield for free at the end of the season.
Although the 24-year-old striker has always insisted that he would not allow that to happen, it appears the Liverpool board have decided not to take the risk, preferring to ensure they cash in with Owen’s contract extension talks having so far failed to reach a satisfactory conclusion.
Owen has been with Liverpool since he was 11-years-old.
